Leeds United Linked With A Blockbuster Move For German Star: How Would He Fit In?

Leeds United are targetting a shock move for German player Julian Draxler, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain.

Draxler has been with the French side since 2016, joining the club for around €42 million from Wolfsburg, and is in the final year of his contract with the club.

As per RMC Sport, the Whites have made a move for the German, but the 26-year-old is reportedly not keen on a move. Draxler has reportedly rejected a few moves to Bundesliga sides as well as he wants to stay in Paris.

But, PSG need to recoup around £54 million in the transfer window as the COVID-19 pandemic has massively affected their finances. The likes of Draxler, Alphonse Areola and Idrissa Gueye are up for sale.

Julian Draxler to Leeds United – How would he fit in?

Julian Draxler is a fantastically gifted player who has the speed, strength, and flair to take on opposition defenders and create chances for his teammates.

The German is a versatile player, who can play out wide and centrally as an attacking midfielder or central midfielder. He has the vision and technical ability to open up defences with his passing and his direct running.

Draxler didn’t have a great 2019-20 season, as he played just 22 games in all competitions in the entire season. The German international may not have too many opportunities in the 2020-21 season for PSG either, as there is a lot of competition in the few attacking roles in the French club.

Leeds United signing Draxler would be a huge coup, and perhaps be one of the best signings in the Premier League in the 2020-21 season. The German would be head and shoulders above the attacking options that Marcelo Bielsa has in his Leeds squad.

He could play in a midfield role ahead of Pablo Hernandez, but it’s likely that the experienced Spaniard will stay in the starting XI, considering his enormous influence on the Leeds team.

If Leeds United sign Draxler, he will most likely play out wide, most probably ahead of Helder Costa on the right side of attack. Jack Harrison has done well on the left, and he could retain his place in the starting XI. We could see a front three of Harrison, Draxler, and Rodrigo.

The 26-year old has the experience of playing under tactically demanding managers like Ralf Rangnick, Joachim Loew, and Thomas Tuchel, and that could hold him in good stead under Bielsa. Leeds like to press teams when they don’t have the ball, and Draxler’s high work ethic will help him settle down quickly at Elland Road.
