West Brom Linked With A Transfer For Buccaneering Full-Back: A Good Fit For Bilic?

West Brom continue to be linked with some exciting names from across the country, and the latest name on their radar is Wigan Athletic star, Antonee Robinson.

A report from Birmingham Mail claims that that Baggies have joined the likes of Fulham, Everton and Sheffield United in the race to sign Robinson, with Fulham offering 10 times his current wages.

West Brom have to put the best deal on the table to try, and land Robinson but is he worth the fuss?

Antonee Robinson and his numbers

Robinson joined the Everton academy in 2015, but failed to break into the first team at Goodison Park. He had a decent loan stint at Bolton and then at Wigan, where he finally signed a permanent deal after impressing.

A left-back by trait, the 23-year-old is an attack-minded full-back with impressive ball control. He is effective with the ball at his feet at both ends of the pitch, is adept at dribbling past opponents on the flank, and has the ability to test defences with his crosses.

What makes him that much more impressive is his ability to defend for long periods. He is a calm and composed presence at the back, rarely loses a duel, and when he does, his pace helps him in making the important recovery tackles.

Robinson plays for the US National side, where he has seven international caps to his name. He has established himself as a regular in the first team as well.

The right player for West Brom?

Bilic had the trusted Conor Townsend for most of the season at left-back in the Championship. Kieran Gibbs and Nathan Ferguson also put in shifts when needed.

While Townsend may remain the first choice next season as well, Ferguson has completed his move to Crystal Palace this summer, leaving Bilic in search of a full-back.

Ferguson covered for both full-back roles last season, and West Brom need to buy backups for both the full-back roles, following his departure.

So Robinson, who will be available on the cheap after Wigan’s relegation, might just be the right man for the Baggies.

The US international has the potential, and deserves to play in the Premier League. Lack of top-flight experience may be an issue but at his price, West Brom should do what it takes to land Antonee Robinson this summer.
