Following the super-swift signings of Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres, Premier League side Manchester City could make a move for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine, who has been likened to prolific City forward Sergio Aguero, has had a fantastic 2019-20 season for Inter.
According to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old is the No. 1 choice to replace compatriot Aguero in the City starting XI. Lautaro Martinez joined Inter in 2018 for a fee of around €22.7 million. He has gone on to score 28 goals and 7 assists in 81 appearances for the Italian club. In the current season, the forward has racked up 19 goals and 6 assists in 46 games.
Inter will most likely demand a huge fee for Lautaro Martinez as he still has three years remaining on his contract and is one of the best young forwards in the world.
Lautaro Martinez: Should City go all out?
Lautaro Martinez is a fine young forward, who has great work-rate, can score and set-up goals, and also add energy and speed to a team’s attack. The Argentine loves to take on defenders with his dribbling, while his speed is also a threat for opposition defences. He also likes to take shots on goal, be it from distance or inside the box, constantly testing the keeper with ferocious attempts.
Martinez makes good runs into the box to get on the end of crosses and gets into good positions in and around the box, a trait the likes of De Bruyne and new signing Ferran Torres will appreciate. That, coupled with his good finishing skills, has brought him a lot of goals, with the striker netting 25 goals last season for club and country. The young Argentinian would be a phenomenal addition to the Manchester City side, and could seamlessly replace Sergio Aguero in the City starting XI.
Lautaro Martinez has played two full seasons for Inter Milan and has impressed for the Italian club, taking little time to settle down and adapt to European football. The Argentine is just 22 years of age, similar to when Aguero joined City in 2011. Like his compatriot, Martinez could have a fantastic career at City. His sharp mind in the box, confident dribbling, and goalscoring will make him a better option than City’s current No. 2, Gabriel Jesus. Martinez could learn a thing or two under the guidance of Aguero to improve his game and make a big impact for City in seasons to come.
City should do everything in their power to sign the in-demand Lautaro Martinez, who has all the qualities to be a success at the club.
