In spite of the failed takeover, s are expected to sign a few fresh faces in the transfer market, and one name on their transfer radar is Jeff Hendrick, as per reports.
The Guardian claim that the Magpies have managed to fend off interest from AC Milan and AS Roma, and will sign Hendrick as a free agent in the coming days.
Newcastle United are yet to agree personal terms but is he the right man for Steve Bruce’s side?
Jeff Hendrick – What will he offer?
The 28-year-old spent six long years in the first team at Derby County before moving to Turf Moor in 2016 for a then-record club fee of £10.5million.
In his four seasons with the Clarets, Hendrick has managed 10 goals and seven assists in 139 appearances, often playing in various midfield roles.

Though he can play across the four midfield positions, Hendrick is an energetic presence on the wing, often happy to act as a cover for his full-backs. He is strong in the air, hardly loses a duel on the flanks, and also has great vision, abilities that Newcastle can use next season.
His composure and vision when in possession of the ball makes him an effective midfielder while his understanding of the game often keeps him a step ahead of his opponents.
Hendrick has over 200 league appearances in England, 54 caps for the Ireland national side and at just 28, is an experienced campaigner who will only improve this Newcastle side.
A Smart move by Bruce to go after Hendrick?
Hendrick was a regular in the first team under Sean Dyche, and will only move to Newcastle if Bruce can promise similar playing time at St James’ Park as well.
The Magpies have the likes of Issac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey playing in the centre of the park. Bruce used a three-man backline regularly, leaving the likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin with the burden of creating chances from the wide areas.
Hendrick may not bring goals to this role but he will definitely help Newcastle in the transitions. The Burnley man will also allow Bruce to move back to a four-man backline when needed. Hendrick can provide cover for his right-back and his centre backs, giving more balance to the Newcastle side.
Bizarrely, Hendrick did not extend his contract with Burnley and is a free agent so this is a deal Newcastle United should try and get over the line.
