Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia, as per reports.
The 23-year-old was one of the bright sparks for the Canaries in the 2019-20 season, which saw them finish plum last and drop to the Championship.
The Argentine is a target for the Villans as per The Sun (via HITC), and the club will have to shell out around £20 million for the Norwich ace. Buendia had a decent 2019-20 Premier League campaign, registering 7 assists for his side.
The former Getafe player, who moved to Norwich City in 2018, still has four years remaining on his current contract with the Canaries, which puts the relegated side in a firm position with regard to transfer negotiations.
Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa – A smashing move by Smith?
Emiliano Buendia showed his true potential right away in the Premier League, with his creativity, vision, and technical ability all shining through.
The Argentinian is a diminutive attacker who has great close control and the ability to jink past defenders thanks to his dribbling and speed. Buendia is not just a one-trick pony; he has the ability to unlock defences with smart passes in the final third.
The right-footed player likes to play on the right side and drift into central areas, but he can also play as a No. 10, the position he excelled in when he played for Getafe and Cultural Leonesa in Spain.
Buendia has also, at times, played as a left-winger. He would be a great signing for Aston Villa, and could even replace captain Jack Grealish if the Englishman leaves the club before the start of the 2020-21 season.
The Argentine has creativity and flair in abundance, which is much-needed in the Villa side, while he also has the experience of playing in the Premier League. This would make it easy for him to adapt to his new side, if he does join them.
He would be a big upgrade on Jota – Villa’s second-choice right winger – while also competing with Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi for a spot on either wing.
Buendia could also fit in well in the three-man midfield that manager Dean Smith employed in the 2019-20 season, and could be the furthest forward midfielder. His versatility and his creativity, as well as his young age, will make him a good signing for the Villans ahead of the 2020-21 season.
