Carlo Ancelotti’s quest for improvement at Merseyside might see Everton make a move for Bournemouth star David Brooks this transfer window.
According to a report from Daily Star this week, The Cherries are desperate to keep hold of their Welsh star. But the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also interested in Brooks, who is wanted by the Merseyside club.
More on David Brooks
Having moved to Bournemouth in 2018, the 23-year-old broke into the first team straight away and registered seven goals and five assists in 29 league starts, turning into a trustworthy player for Eddie Howe.
A pre-season ankle injury reduced Brooks’ 2019-20 season to just eight league starts but his energy on and off the ball makes him a promising prospect for clubs in the top flight.
Comfortable playing on the wing, David Brooks is an attacking midfielder who is not shy of making darting runs into the box.
He is poised and confident with the ball at his feet while his positioning in the final third often creates trouble for even the most organized backlines.
While his finishing is decent, Brooks is adept at carrying the ball from deep in his own half as well and his decision making, even under pressure, makes creating chances look easy for him.
David Brooks: Good Fit For Everton?
Everton have a 30-year-old Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bernard as the only options in the attacking midfield roles. Ancelotti tried the likes of Alex Iwobi through the middle but someone like David Brooks could even walk into the first team at Goodison Park in due course.
The Bournemouth man has 12 international caps for Wales and has enough experience to impress Ancelotti and make the first team next season.
However, the only possible thing putting Everton off this deal could be the rumoured price tag slapped on David Brooks by Bournemouth.
The Daily Star claims that the Cherries are desperate to hold onto their prized asset who they believe will be crucial in their promotion bid in the next season.
So Brooks could cost Everton close to £30m, which would reduce their chances of improving other areas of the squad. However, his versatility could solve more than one problem in the squad for Ancelotti.
The Toffees have ageing stars who need to be replaced in the first team so spending big on Brooks is certainly a risk.
However, the Welshman’s quality is already proven so if Everton can afford to meet his asking price and fend off interest from London, they could get their hands on one of the most exciting prospects in the English game at the moment.
