Arsenal Looking To Sign Dutch Star For £25million: A Quality Option For Arteta

Arsenal are looking to sign Ajax star Quincy Promes to bolster their squad, as per reports.

Promes, who moved to Ajax last summer from Sevilla, had a stunning campaign for the Dutch giants before the pandemic halted the Eredivisie a few months ago.

The 28-year old has four more years remaining on his current contract, but the Sun claim that Arsenal are looking to sign Promes for a fee of £25million. Ajax would still make a profit of £11million, having signed the attacker for a fee of £14million in 2019.

Mikel Arteta used Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the left side of attack, and it remains to be seen if the Gabon international will stay with the Gunners as his contract expires in 2021.

Quincy Promes to Arsenal – A quality option for Arteta

Aubameyang’s potential departure would be a headache for the Gunners, as the former Borussia Dortmund star is not only a leader, but also the side’s best goal-scorer. Despite playing on the left, the 31-year old has found the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Should they lose a player like that, the Gunners would look toothless in front of goal, and that’s where Quincy Promes would be a good player to have.

The Dutch international mustered an impressive 16 goals in all competitions in his first season for Ajax, and is in the peak years of his career. The 28-year old was released by Ajax during his teenage years, and had to rise through the ranks at other clubs before returning to his former team.

Promes is the definition of a complete modern-day winger, one who can create chances for his team, and put them away when needed. Technically gifted, Promes averaged 2.2 key passes in the Eredivisie last season, which shows his composure to pick a pass in the attacking third.

Now, his versatility is something that is not talked about too often. Under Eric ten Hag, Promes has done well in a central midfield role as well, which is incredible considering he is predominantly a winger. His passing and distribution were impeccable last season (86% accuracy and 41.6 average passes a game), and he would be a quality addition to the Arsenal squad.

Promes has also done incredibly well for the Dutch national team, and helped with their resurgence since 2018. The Netherlands nearly won the UEFA Nations League, and Promes played a key role in the side.

Arteta has already done a commendable job, but needs more technically sound players to implement his blueprint next season and climb higher up the Premier League table.

If the Gunners can keep Aubameyang and sign Promes, Arteta would have a good attacking squad next season. But, if they do lose Aubameyang, Promes would be a solid replacement for the African star.
