Leicester City have been linked with a move for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski, as per reports.
The Foxes are not the only side interested in the Burnley man as Crystal Palace are also keeping close tabs on the 27-year-old, whose performances with the Clarets have earned him quite a lot of plaudits from fans and pundits.
Burnley have set an asking price of around £50 million for the centre-back, but Rodgers has made it clear that he still remains one of Leicester’s defensive targets in the upcoming transfer window alongside Nathan Ake and Jannik Vestergaard, as per the Mirror.
Tarkowski has made 31 appearances for the Clarets this season, and has been an important member for Burnley, who are in the top half of the Premier League table as we head into the last stretch of the league.
James Tarkowski to Leicester – A top option for Rodgers?
Leicester have done well this season, and even challenged Liverpool for a while in the early parts of the season before their form dropped. Brendan Rodgers has been instrumental in their good run, and he has brought the best out of the players this season.
The Foxes’ defensive pairing at the back been key to their recent success, as both Jonny Evans and Çağlar Soyuncu have been at their absolute best.
While Soyuncu is a new talent who has impressed and still has his best years ahead of him, Evans is already 32 and will need to be replaced eventually.
James Tarkowski could be the perfect replacement for Evans as far as talent is concerned. He, currently 27, is entering the peak years of his career, and has put in some dominating displays donning the Burnley shirt.
His tackling and blocking are also pretty good. So far this season, he has made 1.7 tackles and 1.7 interceptions per game on an average in the league. Tarkowski is also a no-nonsense defender, and has averages 5.1 clearances this season.
Tarkowski is a big presence at the heart of the defence and is strong in the aerial duels which would perhaps add more solidity at the back.
Leicester are likely to play Champions League football next season, so they will need good squad depth with quality players to call upon, and Tarkowski certainly fits the bill.
