Everton leading race for Serie A midfield ace: Is he the solution to their midfield woes?

Everton are leading the race to sign French international Adrien Rabiot who might be well on his way out of Juventus after joining the Italian club just a year before from Paris Saint Germain.

Tuttosport understands that both the player and the club are thinking of ending their relationship with the footballer not having a season to be proud of at Turin.

It is also being reported that the Juventus hierarchy does not hold a good impression of Adrien Rabiot at the moment as he returned to training later than most of his team-mates after the permission to start warming up for the restart of Serie A was granted last month.

If the 25-year-old seals a deal to Goodison Park, he will reunite with former boss Carlo Ancelotti who had handed him his Paris Saint-Germain debut in the year 2012.

Adrien Rabiot: Can they build their midfield around him?

Everton have been having an extremely ordinary season and even the appointment of a high profile coach like Carlo Ancelotti last December has not seen an immediate upturn in fortune.

Though Everton have talent in the form of Richarlison, Theo Walcott, Moise Kean, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Bernard in their offensive line, they have failed to click as a unit while the poor midfield has not helped their cause.

Apart from Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has been woefully out of form, and Andre Gomes, who was injured for most of the season, there are no difference-makers in that department.

Adrien Rabiot could be a player who could come in to justify that role provided he works very hard to enhance his skills that have not grown to the extent it should have during spells at Paris and Turin.

Rabiot’s stint at Juventus was a forgettable one as he did not manage a single goal or assist in his 24 appearances for the side that has some of the best talents in the world.

At this moment it seems Rabiot could be an option who will sit favourably with the new manager given their past working relationship but making him the focal point of the team might be too big an ask.

Building the midfield around a player like Rabiot, who has not been in the best form of late could be a risky move for any coach at the moment.

But his age (25) means Ancelotti could give the player adequate time to settle down at Goodison Park and look to foster a new midfield partnership with the likes of Gomes and Sigurdsson and a preseason with the team and any new signings will hold the manager and the club in good stead heading into next season.
