Former star urges Werner to choose Man United over Liverpool: Right move for the player?

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has been advised to join Manchester United instead of Liverpool, by former England international, Owen Hargreaves. Hargreaves believes that the German forward will not be able to start ahead of Roberto Firmino at Liverpool and he will have to settle for a rotational role in the front three.

The former Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Manchester City midfielder said that Werner will score goals wherever he plays, and argued that Liverpool would be a very good fit for him thanks to his pace and dribbling ability. Werner has been in incredible form for the Leipzig since signing for them in 2016.

He has scored 91 goals in 152 appearances for Leipzig, with 30 of those 91 coming in the 2019-20 season.

Timo Werner: The right move for him?

Timo Werner, along with Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz, have been three of the most exciting young players in the Bundesliga over the last two seasons. Werner, who can play as a striker or as a wide player, has used his blistering pace and accurate finishing to good effect at Leipzig.

But, he won’t be there for a long time as several top European clubs are keen to sign him. Werner is a player who can trouble most defences and defenders in the world and can get into most sides in Europe on present form.

Liverpool and Manchester United, along with Chelsea, are a few sides interested in signing the 24-year-old striker and could secure the coveted signature in the coming transfer windows.

If Werner has to choose between Liverpool and Manchester United in the future, he should join the Merseyside club rather than the Red Devils. Liverpool are perhaps the best team in the world right now, one that can blow away most teams with their quick and energetic football. Werner’s electric pace would fit in well at the club. He would thrive under Klopp and could become even more dangerous playing in a system with high octane football which is in vogue in the red half of Merseyside.

While he may not start each game, there is a possibility that one of Liverpool’s famed front three – Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane, could leave the club in the next few seasons. If they do, he will surely be the first one to replace that outgoing player. Liverpool have the best team, the best manager in Europe, and have a better chance at winning trophies than Manchester United, who are currently a team that is being rebuilt.

While he may have a more prominent role in the current Manchester United set up, there are simply too many unanswered questions regarding the immediate future and the direction the club want to go in. The Manchester-based side will be fighting to get into the top 4 right now and once again become a regular in the Champions League before attempting to take the much-desired step to make a strong push for the Premier League title once again.

And while the player reiterated his desire to continue playing in the Bundesliga for the foreseeable future, top clubs will continue courting him with a view to signing him in the next couple of transfer windows.
