Manchester United are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window and have been linked with several players, including two bright English stars – Jack Grealish and James Maddison. Grealish and Maddison, who play for Aston Villa and Leicester City respectively, have both been excellent this season and have been linked with big-money moves throughout the campaign.
But the clubs are well aware of the interest and the Foxes have already taken steps to avoid losing the player in the summer.
As per Manchester Evening News, Leicester feel that no club will meet the £80 million that they are demanding for the 23-year-old midfielder. Leicester are optimistic of keeping Maddison at the King Power Stadium for next season given the expected uncertainty in the transfer market, in financial terms.
Maddison’s contract with Leicester expires in 2023, while Grealish’s deal with Villa ends in the same year as well. But, United will be in a stronger position to sign the latter for a much cheaper fee if a possible restart results in relegation for Aston Villa.
Jack Grealish or James Maddison: Who is the better fit for Manchester United?
James Maddison(23) and Jack Grealish(24) are both fine players who will add quality and creativity to Manchester United, while also adding depth to the squad, giving manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer more options. Both players are in similar stages in their club career and are of similar ages.
The two Englishman tick all the boxes required of a Manchester United player, as they both have already shown enough desire and commitment on the football pitch, have undeniable flair and are young English players with the potential to grow and become world-class players.
But, at the current moment, United should target Grealish over Maddison in the 2020 summer transfer window. He is more creative and adventurous on the ball and has shown his mettle against the big guns playing in a poor Villa side. His arrogance and confidence on the ball is something most teams will welcome.
Jack Grealish is the kind of player that United have missed over the last few years, one that can take the game by the scruff of the neck and produce a bit of magic when the chips are down. He has played in multiple positions, mostly coming infield from the left-wing and has scored 7 goals while assisting 6 more in the league.
James Maddison plays in a slightly withdrawn role thus resulting in fewer goals and assists but the role in which he excels has already been tended to by Ed Woodward. A similarly functioning player in Bruno Fernandes has hit the ground running for the Red Devils and given the upturn in form of Fred and the emergence of Scott McTominay, the central midfield seems to be sorted for the moment.
In the likely scenario, the deal for Grealish is financially more viable than Maddison’s, it will afford the board opportunity to try and strengthen other areas of the pitch and improve the balance of the squad.
