Liverpool have been backed to sign Leicester City’s impressive centre-back, Caglar Soyuncu, by his former agent Mustafa Dogru.
The Turkish international has been one of the key players for the Foxes in their fantastic 2019-20 season.
As per AS, a few top clubs in Europe are interested in signing him, as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid are watching him closely.
Soyuncu’s former agent Dogru made these revelations to AS, where he also stated that Barca had looked at Soyuncu when he was at Freiburg.
“I think only Liverpool have the power to sign Caglar Soyüncü in the Premier because of their economic conditions, but we must not forget French teams. PSG could be a surprise,” Dogru told AS.
The 23-year-old central defender has played 35 games for the club in the 2019-20 season, and has helped the Foxes challenge for a Champions League spot under Brendan Rodgers. He still has three years remaining on his current deal with the club.
Caglar Soyuncu – Is he worth the fuss?
Soyuncu has had a fantastic season with Leicester City, forming a solid partnership with Jonny Evans, and has ably replaced Harry Maguire, who left for Manchester United.
The Turkish international, who moved from Freiburg in 2018, had little playing time in his first season at the club, but has been an instrumental player for the Foxes this season.
The central defender has shown impressive strength and control, brushing off attackers with ease. Soyuncu anticipates dangerous attacking situations and nips them in the bid with his pressing and tackling, averaging 1.8 tackles per game this season in the Premier League.
He has taken the “defence first” approach while playing at the back, clearing an average of 4.6 balls per game in the league.
One important trait of his game is his excellent passing ability from the back. Soyuncu averaged 66.5 passes per game in the Premier League, with an accuracy of 89.3% – stats that will impress Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Soyuncu could be a very good fit beside Virgil van Dijk in the Liverpool defence, and strengthen an already strong backline.
Soyuncu is a young player with strength, good reading of the game, as well as solid passing, which makes him a perfect fit for the Liverpool defence.
The Turkey international is only going to get better with time, and playing in one of the best teams in the world will only speed up that process. The Reds should sign him if they have the opportunity.
