Wolves Reportedly Eye A Record £53m Move For Goal-machine: A Good Move By Nuno?

Premier League side Wolves are reportedly keen on signing Benfica striker, Carlos Vinicius.

The 25-year-old striker joined Benfica from Italian club Napoli last summer for a fee of €17 million, and has been a hit for the Portuguese side in his debut season.

As per Mirror Football, Wolves, as well as Manchester United, are interested in signing him. The same report also says that reports in Portugal claim Wolves are willing to pay £53 million – which would be a club record, but Benfica want them to match Brazilian striker’s release clause, which is set at £88 million.

In his first season with Benfica, Vinicius has so far scored 20 goals and made 12 assists in 36 games in all competitions. His current contract with the club expires only in 2024.

Carlos Vinicius to Wolves – A good move by Nuno?

Wolves’ first-choice striker Raul Jimenez, has had an excellent 2019-20 season, which has resulted in interest from several clubs for his signature.

If the Mexican international does leave the club, they will need a top-quality striker to help them progress even further in the cup competitions, and the Premier League.

Their interest in Carlos Vinicius is not a surprise, considering the excellent season the striker had for Benfica. The Brazilian is a player who has the knack of being at the right place at the right time, in and around the penalty area.

The 6’3″ striker is a neat finisher, who averaged 2.1 shots per game in 22 league games in Portugal for Benfica.

He’s comfortable with the ball at his feet in the penalty box and has shown great composure to settle his feet and take shots on goal. He is decent in the air, and has showcased his ability to hold off defenders with his strength, which has come in handy when he is in the box.

Vinicius likes to quickly shift the ball to his stronger foot and take shots on goal when in the box. His strength with and without the ball, his composure in the box, and the ability to keep the ball close to him under pressure has helped him score a lot of goals in the Portuguese league.

He would be a good replacement for Jimenez, if the Mexican leaves the club, and is unlikely to be fazed by the physical nature of the Premier League.
