Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne will most likely be on his way out of Liverpool in the summer, having not played for the Reds this season. The Englishman injured himself in pre-season, suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while he had also fallen out of favour with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp before that.
As per Transfer Market Web, Nathaniel Clyne, whose contract expires in the summer, will leave the Merseyside club. The 28-year-old’s five-year stay at Liverpool, since his move from Southampton, has seen him make over 100 appearances for the side.
With Clyne set to leave the club, here are 3 players that could replace him in the Liverpool squad:
Ricardo Pereira
Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira has perhaps been one of the best right-backs in the league this season, having been one of the key players in the Foxes’ impressive run this season. The 26-year-old right-back also suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury recently, ruling him out for the rest of the season, but he may be fit before the start of the next season.
Pereira has been superb defensively, racking up 119 tackles this season – 20 more than the second-highest in the league, Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He is also very good going forward, averaging 2.1 dribbles per game in the league this season. He could provide stern competition to first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, while also adding depth to the squad.
Max Aarons
From an experienced right-back to one that has the potential to be one of the best in the league – Norwich City’s Max Aarons. Aarons is an attacking full-back who first caught the eye last season, in the Canaries’ Championship-winning season. The 20-year-old is a quick and confident full-back, who likes to take on defences and dribble forward at every given opportunity.
Aarons is still a raw player, but he could learn and grow under the tutelage of Klopp at Liverpool. With Norwich City possibly facing relegation, they may sell players, with Aarons being on the list of many top Premier League teams.
Matt Doherty
Irish full-back Matt Doherty has been in excellent form for the high-flying Wolves team this season, in his right wing-back role. The 28-year-old is an experienced player who has been at Wolves for a decade, helping them climb from League 1 to the Premier League.
A strong and physical player, Doherty is superb in the air, averaging 3.7 headers per game in the Premier League, while also having tremendous work-rate. He may not have the crossing ability of Alexander-Arnold, but he has the work ethic that Klopp loves in his players.
