Liverpool Could Sell Attacking Ace In The Transfer Window: A Wise Move By The Club?

Premier League leaders Liverpool could reportedly sell striker Divock Origi in the summer transfer window.

The Belgian has always been a second-choice option for manager Jürgen Klopp, and has seen very little playing time.

As per Transfer Market Web, the 24-year-old could be sold by Liverpool, with French club Lille and German club Wolfsburg interested in signing him.

The report says that the striker could be sold for around €20 million. Origi has mostly been an option off the bench for Klopp, having made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 5 goals and assisting 4 times.

He has started just 5 of the 22 games he has played in the Premier League this season, before the league was halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Origi signed a new deal in 2019 after playing a key role in the semi-final and final of the Champions League last season.

Selling Divock Origi – A wise move by the club?

Despite scoring vital goals for Liverpool, Origi hasn’t earned the trust of manager Jürgen Klopp. The Belgian is a good player to bring off the bench, but he hasn’t been consistent enough to challenge for a place in the starting XI.

Origi is nowhere near the quality of the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah, who have been in incredible form over the last two seasons.

Liverpool have to add a few players to their squad to add depth, especially in full-back areas and in the attack. Klopp doesn’t have too many world-class options to compete with his famed front three, and Origi is not one that is going to compete with those three.

While Origi can offer moments of brilliance at times, his consistency is a problem, and Liverpool rather need someone who can make an instant impact.

Klopp’s side must sell the Belgian and use some of the funds to sign a world-class attacker, someone like Timo Werner, who is reportedly keen on a move to Anfield.

The German would fit perfectly on the left or as the main striker, using his pace, dribbling ability, and goalscoring prowess to good effect in the Liverpool team.

Werner is a young player with fantastic ability, and can offer Klopp several tactical options in attack next season. Origi has had a few great moments for the Merseyside club, but he should be allowed to leave in the summer so that Liverpool can freshen their attack.
