Arsenal Have Eyes On In-Demand PSG Star: A Solid Option For Arteta?

Arsenal could reportedly join the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain player Thomas Meunier, who could be on the move in the summer.

The Belgian has not signed a new deal with the French club, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

As per Het Laatste Nieuws, Arsenal are interested in bringing the 28-year-old to the Emirates, but German club Borussia Dortmund are the front-runners to get his signature.

The report states that Meunier has not made a decision yet on his future. The Gunners were reportedly interested in signing him last season under then manager Unai Emery, but that deal did not materialise. The Belgian has been with PSG since 2016, having joined from Club Brugge.

Meunier has made over 120 appearances for the French side in all competitions. In the current season, he has made 27 appearances, scoring once and making two assists in all competitions.

Thomas Meunier – A solid option for Arteta?

Meunier is a versatile and talented player who can play anywhere on the right side from right-back to right wing-back and further forward as a right-sided midfielder.

The Belgian is a player who is a confident passer, who can link well with his teammates and move the ball quickly up the field, averaging 2.3 long balls per game in the league this season.

Thanks to his 6’3″ frame, Meunier is also very good in the air, while being a strong tackler as well. Meunier is an all-round player that is good defensively and can also make key passes up the field as well.

The Belgium international has a lot of experience of playing in the Champions League and for his national team, which could help an Arsenal team that has lacked leadership in defence.

The Gunners currently have Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, and Cedric Soares (on loan from Southampton) as options at right-back, but Chambers and Soares have been injured.

Bellerin may have perhaps fallen out of favour with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, who has played Sokratis at right-back recently. Meunier would be a good fit in Arteta’s possession-based football, while also adding experience to the backline.

With him being available on a free, this signing should be a no-brainer for Arteta.
