Newcastle United could possibly make a move for Said Benrahma in the summer, a player who has been in terrific form for Championship side Brentford this season.
The 24-year-old moved to Brentford in 2018, and has been consistently good in the attacking role this season.
As per The Northern Echo, Newcastle United scouts watched the Brentford game this past weekend, most likely having a look at Benrahma.
Arsenal have also been recently linked with a move for the Algerian international.
Benrahma has scored 8 goals and made 6 assists for Brentford in 27 Championship matches, propelling them to fifth in the league table.
The 24-year-old’s contract with the Championship side expires in 2022, but he may leave before that. The Algerian has made 3 appearances for his national side as well.
Is Said Benrahma the answer to Newcastle United’s attacking woes?
It looks like Newcastle United will retain their top-flight status, but their fans expect a lot more than a mid-table finish.
The Magpies – who could have new owners by the start of the next transfer window — signed a few players on loan in the winter transfer window.
Danny Rose, Valentino Lazaro, and Nabil Bentaleb were signed on loan in the winter, but it remains to be seen if the club sign the trio on permanent deals in the summer.
One thing which is certain is that Newcastle United need to sign new players in attack as they have lacked goals this season. The likes of Andy Carroll and Joelinton haven’t scored enough, while Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almirón are showing promise, but are more of players who are often involved in the build-up, but are not natural finishers.
Benrahma could be a very good signing for the Magpies, as he is a player that can play anywhere in the front three.
This season, the Algerian has played on the left as an inverted winger, where he has excelled, but he can also play as a right winger or even as a striker or second striker. Technically very good, Benrahma has quick feet to get away from defenders while also possessing strong passing ability.
He could provide competition to Allan Saint-Maximin or play as a second striker, partnered with Joelinton. Benrahma has the ability to wow fans and he is a player that could be an instant hit with the St. James’ Park faithful.
Benrahma has scored eight and assisted six goals in the Championship this season. But it remains to be seen how he would adapt to life in the top-flight should he move.
