If reports are to be believed, Barcelona will try to bring back former player Adama Traore from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer. The Spanish-born player, who came through the ranks at the Catalan club, has had a good season with Wolves, which has prompted speculation about him leaving the Premier League side in the summer.
As per Daily Mail, Barca’s scouts have been at a few Wolves games this season, and they could possibly pursue a deal to bring him back to Nou Camp. The report states that Barcelona no longer have a buy-back clause on the 24-year-old, which reportedly was removed when Adama Traore moved from Aston Villa to Middlesbrough.
Wolves signed the winger from Boro in 2018 and he has gone on to make 71 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 13 assists. His current deal with Wolves expires in 2023, with the player having signed a five-year deal when he moved to the Molineux Stadium.
Adama Traore: The spark Barcelona need?
Barcelona’s average performances resulted in the sacking of Ernesto Valverde earlier this season, who was replaced by Quique Setien. The La Liga side need to have a massive overhaul in the summer, as they will have to let go of a few players, while also bring in a few exciting ones.
Barca certainly need new faces in attack following their lethargic displays this season. Setien’s appointment hasn’t seen an upturn in results with the Catalan club getting dumped out of the Copa del Rey last night. They need more in terms of pace and unpredictability, both of which are guaranteed when it comes to the Wolves winger.
Adama Traore is a player who is direct, quick, and physically strong, while also possessing the Barca DNA, having come through the ranks at the club. It only makes sense for him to return to the club where he learnt the ropes, and give Barca a huge boost.
Yes, his close control and passing are not the most favourable in comparison to the senior professionals already at the club but he will offer another dimension which is much-needed at the club especially further up the field.
Adama Traore may cost a lot of money, but a player with qualities that he possesses is difficult to find in world football currently, and hence it is a direction which Barcelona must revisit if they are to surprise teams next season.
