Wolverhampton Wanderers Linked With Exciting Portuguese Winger: Canny Option For Nuno

Wolves are pursuing the signature of winger Daniel Podence, who currently plays for Greek club Olympiacos. The Portuguese winger moved to the Greek side in 2018 and has been in decent form, which has attracted interest from the Premier League club.

As per BBC Sport, manager Nuno Espirito Santo wants to strengthen his squad with the signing of the former Sporting Lisbon player. The report states that Podence’s current transfer value is more than £20 million. He switched to Olympiacos after terminating his contract with former club Sporting Lisbon in 2018.

The 24-year-old has made 68 appearances for his current side in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists. His current deal with Olympiacos expires only in 2023, with the player having signed an extension in late 2019.

Daniel Podence: A good option for Nuno?

Wolves have had a long season, having started off the 2019-20 campaign much earlier than the rest of the Premier League, due to their involvement in the Europa League qualifying stages. The club has done exceedingly well in both the Europa League and the Premier League, and are once again in contention for a top 6 spot.

The Wolves squad is not very big compared to the top sides in the league, but manager Nuno Espirito Santo has done a fantastic job in working with what he has got and still managing to keep his players relatively fresh through the hectic period.

But, it’s important that they make a couple of signings in the January transfer window to continue their good form.

Daniel Podence could be a very good signing for Wolves as he is a quick and talented player that could fit well in Nuno’s system. The right-footed winger predominantly plays on the left, but can also play on the right. The Portuguese winger likes to tease defenders with his great close control, trickery, and acceleration. He is a player that is fearless and likes to take on and beat defenders time after time, while his final delivery is impressive as well.

He has averaged 3 dribbles per game in the Champions League this season while making 1.5 key passes per game in the league as well. Wolves have exciting wingers like Adama Traoré, Diogo Jota, and Pedro Neto, and the addition of Daniel Podence could increase the competition in the forward areas which is the need of the hour given the level at which Wolves are operating at the moment.
