West Ham United could bolster their midfield in the January transfer window as they have been linked with a move for Slavia Prague’s Tomas Soucek, as per reports.
The 24-year-old has come through the ranks at the Czech club and made over 150 appearances.
According to Football.London, the Hammers are interested in bringing him on loan with the option to buy him on a permanent deal in the summer.
He is reportedly worth €25 million, but the price could be halved, as per the same report. The report also states that the Hammers have several midfielders in their shortlist, including Joe Allen, Franck Kessie, and Sander Berge.
Soucek has been in good form this season offensively and defensively, scoring 12 goals in all competitions for his club. The Czech Republic international has played 20 times for his national team, scoring 3 goals since his debut in 2016.
Tomas Soucek – A solid option for Moyes?
West Ham United need some inspiration and a few new faces added to the squad in January if they are to stand any chance of staying in the Premier League. The Hammers have a talented squad, but it hasn’t quite worked this season after a promising start to their campaign.
Manager David Moyes needs to bring more doggedness to the team in their battle to stay in the league.
Tomas Soucek is one player who could add some steel to the midfield. The 24-year-old, who is primarily a defensive midfielder, but can also play as a central midfielder, is a strong, tall, and physical player, who can have a big impact at the centre of the pitch.
Soucek can play the role of a deep-lying creative midfielder, while also using his height and physicality to drop deep and play as a third centre-back, offering cover to his defenders.
He has averaged 2.5 tackles and 2.5 interceptions per game in the Champions League this season, while he also strings together passes, building from the back. The 6’4″ defensive midfielder is very good in the air as well, and could form a good partnership with Declan Rice in the defensive midfield area.
Soucek has the experience of playing in the Champions League as well as his national team, and could be a very good signing for Moyes at West Ham.
