Manchester United Could Take Another Punt On Attacking Star: Right Move By The Club?

Manchester United reportedly want to give Alexis Sanchez another chance at first-team football next season.

The Chilean international is currently on loan at Italian club Inter Milan, but may not have a future there beyond this season.

The Daily Star have reported that Manchester United Chairman Ed Woodward has had discussions with Sanchez’s representatives and has told them that the former Arsenal player will not be allowed to leave United nor make his Inter move a permanent one.

Sanchez’s contract with United expires only in 2022, and his loan deal at Inter does not have a clause for a permanent move.

The Chilean had a miserable time at United after moving from Arsenal, scoring just 5 times in 45 games.

He was sent on loan to Inter, where he hasn’t been able to regain his form, featuring just 7 times, a majority of which were off the bench. He has scored once and made one assist for the Italian club this season.

Right decision by Manchester United to give Alexis Sanchez another chance?

Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United has been a nightmare for both the club and the player.

The Red Devils signed him on a big wage, but he failed to deliver, and was said to be a disruptive figure in the dressing room. United’s interest in adding him back to the club’s first-team squad is baffling.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken time and again about changing the culture of the squad and bringing in young, homegrown players, and moulding a new team. But, the move to give Sanchez another chance would contradict that strategy.

The 31-year-old Chilean’s best years are behind him, and United must cut their losses and try to sell him in the next transfer window. Sanchez’s huge wages may have affected the morale of the dressing room, and both Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer failed to get the best out of him at Old Trafford.

Sanchez is far past his best, and United should rather focus on signing a young player who could eventually develop and blossom into a good first-team player. Alexis Sanchez does not – and must not – have a future at Manchester United if the Red Devils want to build a new era and avoid making the mistakes of the last five years.
