Leicester City faltered in the Premier League over the weekend as they could only register a draw against Norwich City. The Foxes now have a tricky fixture in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday when they face a rejuvenated Everton side at Goodison Park.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have had an easy run in the League Cup so far, defeating Luton Town and Burton Albion convincingly, in the last two rounds. But, they will have a tough test against Everton, who have won and drawn their last two games, against Chelsea and Manchester United, respectively.
Let’s take a look a the possible Leicester City lineup for the game against Everton.
Team News
Leicester City seem to have an almost injury-free squad ahead of the game against Everton.
But, Rodgers could rest quite a few first-team players against Everton as they have tough back-to-back fixtures against Manchester City and Liverpool.
PREDICTED LEICESTER CITY LINEUP VS EVERTON (4-1-4-1)
Goalkeeper
Danny Ward has made two League Cup starts this season and he could come in for Kasper Schmeichel for Wednesday’s game in the Leicester City lineup.
Defence
Club captain Wes Morgan has played in all three League Cup games for Leicester this season, and he could start in defence, alongside Jonny Evans.
Çağlar Söyüncü could drop to the bench for this game.
Christian Fuchs will most likely play at left-back, replacing Ben Chilwell, while James Justin should replace Ricardo Pereira at right-back in the Leicester City lineup.
Midfield
More changes could be made in the middle of the park.
The ever-dependable Wilfred Ndidi could get a much-needed rest, with Hamza Choudhury coming into the team in the holding midfield role. Dennis Praet played the first half against Norwich City over the weekend, and he could get yet another start for the Foxes.
Youri Tielemans could join him in the middle of the park for Wednesday’s game.
Attack
Ayoze Perez was an unused substitute for the game against Norwich City, but he could start on the right for Leicester City against Everton.
We could maybe see Kelechi Iheanacho start up top, after being substituted before half-time at the weekend. Demarai Gray or Marc Albrighton could start from the left in the Leicester City lineup.
LEICESTER CITY LINEUP
A couple thoughts: (1) much rather see us play at least one regular FB, as our FBs are critical to Rodgers’ attack. Fuchs doesn’t get fwd well enough, and Justin is so inexperienced at this level, it just feels like too much resting both FBs. Chilwell and Justin make us much more dynamic. (2) would prefer to see Soy and Morgan vs. Evans and Morgan, just bc of the lack of speed in our CBs, we can do with one who can get back in a hurry. (3) Mendy or Hamza? Seems to me Hamza is less comfortable in Ndidi’s DM role than Mendy, Hamza does a similar job but likes to do it further up the pitch, so I’d at least consider Mendy, though I tend to agree with you, good to have Hamza on the pitch. But if Hamza starts moving fwd and playing a bit closer to midfield, if we do play Evans and Morgan, I’d probably want Mendy to play as a shield in front of the back 4, as Hamza’s natural tendencies will leave dangerous space in front of our CBs. (4) I might consider playing Barnes on the wing, Everton will field the sort of line-up he could get some joy from, and we need his confidence up re his goal-scoring, he can be a 10 goal, 10 assist player next season if he gets his confidence up a bit, he has created quite a few terrific opportunities and he has the quality to finish based on his time at West Brom, I think we are seeing an example of a young player pressing too much, like when he swung and missed at a floater vs Norwich this past weekend. Good article though, must be fun to regularly write about football.
