With the first half of the 2019-20 Premier League season all but complete, and the January transfer window on the horizon, one club that will need to be very active in January are Manchester United.
The Red Devils have looked good at times, but have been very poor against weaker teams, which is why they find themselves eighth in the Premier League table.
Consistency is another issue with the current United team, while the squad is very thin as well.
So, who could Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sign in the January transfer window? Let’s take a look at the possible ins and outs at Manchester United in the January window:
Erling Braut Haaland – In
One player who has been linked often to a move to Manchester United is Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland.
In his first full year at Salzburg, Haaland has scored 28 goals in all competitions, impressing in the Champions League as well. The 19-year-old striker could very well fit into Manchester United’s attack, as the Red Devils have struggled without a strong No. 9.
Solskjaer has a good relationship with Haaland, having managed him at Norwegian club Molde, which could perhaps tilt the deal in United’s favour as the boy is in high demand after his exploits so far this season.
Marcos Rojo – Out
Experienced defender Marcos Rojo has blown hot and cold for Manchester United since signing for the English side in 2014.
The Argentinian was good under Louis van Gaal, but injuries and inconsistency has not helped his progress.
The signing of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, as well as the potential of Axel Tuanzebe, has pushed him down the pecking order, and United are looking to sell (h/t Dailymail) the Argentine in January.
Declan Rice – In
There were rumblings in the summer, and in October, of Manchester United’s interest in West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, and with United weak in the central midfield department, we could see him finally make the move to Old Trafford.
Rice could be one of many young British signings that Manchester United make in the next few transfer windows.
United currently have few options in midfield, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Fred, and Scott McTominay the only good options at the moment. Nemanja Matic could see the exit door (h/t Dailymail), which means that they will need to sign a midfielder to strengthen the squad.
Phil Jones – Out
Another central defender who hasn’t quite lived to his potential is English defender Phil Jones. Jones, who was signed by United in 2011, has won a Premier League title, but he too has fallen down the pecking order.
Jones has been error and injury-prone, and very inconsistent. His time at United is all but truly over and it’s time for him to leave to get first-team action elsewhere.
