Liverpool Eye A Transfer For £65million La Liga Star: What Will He Add To The Team?

Liverpool could make a big signing in the near future as they have reportedly been linked with a move for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

The Brazilian moved to the Spanish side in the summer of 2019 from Nantes, and his good performances for his Spanish side have attracted interest from Liverpool.

As per El Desmarque, Jurgen Klopp could sign Carlos to partner him with Virgil van Dijk at the back for Liverpool. The Merseyside club, though, need to compete with Real Madrid for his signature, who see Carlos as a long-term replacement for captain Sergio Ramos.

Carlos was signed by Sevilla in the summer for £13.5 million, and now Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay his release clause, which stands £65 million.

The Brazilian’s contract with his current club expires only in 2024. Carlos has made 20 appearances for Sevilla this season, scoring two goals. He has played every game for Sevilla in the league this season, helping them to third place in the table so far.

What will Diego Carlos add to Liverpool?

Diego Carlos has impressed for Sevilla this season, after joining the club from Nantes. The 26-year-old is a strong defender who anticipates danger and is quick to clear the ball.

Carlos has averaged 5 clearances and 1.3 tackles per game this season in the league, becoming a leader at the back for Sevilla.

The Brazilian’s safety-first approach has helped Sevilla to 10 wins this season as the Spanish side have lost just 4 of their 18 games. He is good in the air, winning an average of 2.4 aerial balls.

Carlos also often looks to move the ball quickly ahead to his team’s attackers, often going the aerial route to play it directly. He has averaged 4.2 long balls in the season for Sevilla in the league, which is a good number for a defender.

At 26 years of age, Carlos is an experienced player and he could be a good signing for Liverpool.

Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are not as consistent as van Dijk, while Joel Matip has been injured often. So, a new centre-back to partner van Dijk at the back could be an option, though it’s not a priority right now.

Carlos could very well be the player that makes Liverpool an even stronger squad, but for his release, he would be a risk.
