Barcelona could be interested in signing Sassuolo winger Jérémie Boga, who has impressed for the Italian club since signing for them last season.
The Ivory Coast international came through the ranks at Chelsea, and made just one appearance for the London side before going out on loan multiple times.
As per Gianluca Di Marzio, the Catalan giants have discussed having a partnership with the Italian side, which could allow them to have the first refusal on Sassuolo’s players.
The report states that the La Liga side could be interested in signing Boga if his good form continues. Chelsea reportedly have a buy-back clause in Boga’s contract.
The French-born Ivory Coast winger was signed by Sassuolo from Chelsea for about £3.5 million in last season’s summer transfer window. His contract with his current club expires in 2022.
Boga has scored 4 goals and made 2 assists in 13 games in Serie A this season. The Ivorian has made one appearance for his national team, which came back in 2017.
What will Boga add to Barcelona?
Boga is a skilful winger, who plays on the left side, and likes cutting on to his favourite right foot and moving into central areas. The 22-year-old likes to unsettle defenders before quickly dribbling past them, with his quick feet and good acceleration.
The right-footed player has skill and confidence in abundance, and has added goals to his game this season as well.
This season, Boga has averaged 3.7 dribbles per game in Serie A for Sassuolo. He also attracts defenders and picks up fouls with his quickness and dribbling ability, drawing 1.8 fouls per game this season.
Boga is a traditional inverted winger, whose goal is to driving infield and cause chaos in the opposition defence.
Barcelona do not have too many options on the left apart from Antoine Griezmann, with young Ansu Fati the only other option for manager Ernesto Valverde. But, it’s too early to say if Boga is good enough to cut it at Barcelona.
He is still an unproven quantity, and we’ll only be sure of him being capable at the end of this season or the end of 2020.
