Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing German attacker Timo Werner in the January transfer window.
The Merseyside club were previously linked with the 23-year-old, and now seem to have decided to make a move for him when the transfer window opens.
According to Ian McGarry, who was speaking to Express, the Reds could make a move for the Leipzig forward in the January transfer window, and loan him back to the German club for the rest of the season.
The report states that Liverpool have started “formal negotiations with RB Leipzig” and that Werner is interested in a move to the Reds. Liverpool aren’t the only English side interested in Werner, as their rivals Manchester United are reportedly also keen on signing him.
Werner joined RB Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016 for €10 million at the age of 20, and the young German striker has gone on to have a good spell at Leipzig.
He has played over 120 times for Leipzig, scoring 71 goals and 30 assists, which is a fantastic return. This season, Werner has scored 10 times in 14 games in all competitions.
A good decision to go after Timo Werner?
Timo Werner is one of the most promising forwards in world football, and one that has the talent to become a very good player. Liverpool need to strengthen their team as their squad depth can improve in certain areas, especially in attack.
Werner is a player who can play as a centre forward or out on the left, cutting inside from wide areas. The pacey forward is a good dribbler and a potent weapon on the counter attack, while also being a deadly finisher.
Liverpool’s attack is very strong with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino, but the options from the bench are not good enough for a top side like Liverpool.
Sealing a deal for him January and loaning him back to Leipzig is a good idea, especially if there are other clubs in the running for his signature. Werner is just 23 and Liverpool will not lose much by loaning him back to Leipzig as they have backup options at the moment.
Werner would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool, one that would fit in very well in Jürgen Klopp’s system and make the Reds an even stronger force.
