Barcelona will return to action in the Spanish Primera Liga with a game against Leganes on Saturday. The Catalans travel to Leganes after a 4-1 win against Celta Vigo last time around in the league.
They are currently leading the rest of the teams in the Spanish Primera Liga, level on points with arch-rivals Real Madrid, but are ahead on goal difference.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are just a point ahead of Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, as it is close between the top 4 in La Liga, so the Blaugrana will hope for a bit of breathing space between themselves and the rest of the teams.
Early Barcelona team news
Right-back Nelson Semedo will miss the game due to injury as he has been ruled out for a few weeks due to a calf injury.
Left-back Jordi Alba could also miss out on the game due to a hamstring injury, while experienced midfielder Ivan Rakitic is also a doubt after getting injured during the international break.
Let’s take a look at the possible side Valverde could put out for the game against Leganes:
Goalkeeper
Marc-André ter Stegen started the second game for Germany against Northern Ireland, and he is fit and ready for the Leganes game.
Defence
Barcelona have issues in the full-back areas. Semedo and Alba are injured, while Sergi Roberto is suspended for the game against Leganes. This means that we could see youngsters Moussa Wagué and Júnior Firpo start at right-back and left-back respectively in the Barcelona lineup.
At the heart of the defence, Gerard Pique and Clément Lenglet should start, while Samuel Umtiti is an option as well, having not played during the international break.
Midfield
In midfield, Rakitic will be the only one missing from the squad. We could see Valverde choose his trusted trio of Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, and Arthur – all of whom played for their countries.
Busquets did not play last time around, with Sergi Roberto playing in midfield, but the Spaniard should return to the Barcelona lineup with Roberto suspended. Arturo Vidal is another option for Valverde in midfield.
Attack
Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi faced off against each other during the international break as Uruguay and Argentina played in a friendly ending in a 2-2 draw, with both Suarez and Messi scoring.
Both of them should start in the game against Leganes, while Antoine Griezmann should also keep his place in the Barcelona lineup.
