Barcelona are keen on signing Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window, it has been reported.
The Catalans are the latest club to be interested in the Gabonese striker, who is said to be keen on a move away from Arsenal if they do not qualify for the Champions League.
El Chiringuito (via Mirror Football) have reportedly claimed that Aubameyang is looked at Barcelona as the replacement for former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who has not been at his best this season.
Spanish rivals Real Madrid are also interested in the 30-year-0ld Arsenal striker, as per the report. Aubameyang is reportedly going to make a decision on his plans at the end of the season.
The Gabon international was signed from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, and has gone on to have a big impact at north London.
Aubameyang has raced away to 50 goals in 78 appearances for the club in two and a half seasons. He has two years remaining on his current deal at Arsenal which expires in 2021.
Is Aubameyang a top option for the club?
Aubameyang is one of the best strikers in Europe and has adapted very quickly to life in the Premier League. The 30-year-old won the Premier League Golden Boot in his second season at Arsenal, and has got off to a good start this season as well, scoring 9 goals in 13 games in all competitions.
The striker’s pace and movement has caused problems to opposition defences, and his quality finishing has rewarded him with plenty of goals.
Barcelona, meanwhile, have not looked at their best this season, and have struggled when they have not had their talisman Lionel Messi on the pitch.
New signing Antoine Griezmann has not yet hit his stride, while 32-year-old Luis Suarez may be playing his final season at the Catalan club as he has looked a shadow of his former self.
Aubameyang could be a good addition to the Barcelona squad, but he will only be a short-term solution as he is to turn 31 next June and possibly has just a few years at the top of his game. Barca should sign a young striker who is in his mid-30s, who can be an important fixture of the side for the next decade.
