Arsenal are in a crisis currently, as they have fallen way down the Premier League table, which could see manager Unai Emery get the sack. The Gunners are 19 points behind leaders Liverpool in the league and 8 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
The north London club needs an overhaul – and soon – firstly with the coaching staff which could follow on-field personnel in the coming months.
Who could the Gunners sell in the January or summer transfer window?
Let’s take a look at 3 players Arsenal should look to sell soon.
Mesut Ozil
Mesut Ozil is the highest-paid player in the Gunners squad, but the German does not even start most games. In fact, he was left out of the Arsenal squad at the start of the season, due to possible differences with Emery. Ozil has played just four league games this season and has not contributed with either a goal or an assist.
The Arsenal manager has also found it tough to incorporate Ozil in his system, which makes things even more difficult for the German. The former Real Madrid attacking midfielder turns 32 next year, and it is time the Gunners cut their losses and sell him.
He is too expensive for him to be just a squad player and given his form and age there is no guarantee he will be a hit under the next manager.
Granit Xhaka
Granit Xhaka had an embarrassing public fall-out with the fans during Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace. The discord stemming from the incident will not take long to spread its virus in the whole dynamic between the fans and the team along with the manager.
While Xhaka is still highly regarded within the club in his footballing capacity, the volatile nature of his gameplay and public interaction might be deemed a distraction in the future where there will be an opportunity to assess his continued value in the setup.
Shkodran Mustafi
The Gunners have been woeful at the back this season, as well as in the previous few seasons. Shkodran Mustafi is one of several central defenders that the Gunners have tried over the last few seasons, but none of them have had a big impact on their defence.
Mustafi has been poor at the back, often making silly errors, and like his compatriot, Ozil, does not have a long-term future at the club. Mustafi hasn’t played a single Premier League game this season but has made 6 appearances in total in the Europa League and League Cup. Arsenal should sell Mustafi and bring in a quality central defender who along with William Saliba and Rob Holding can form a new set of central defenders to serve the club in the coming years.
And no, that does not include David Luiz.
