Liverpool haven’t been all that active in the last two transfer windows, but that could change if Jürgen Klopp feels the side can improve in the second half of the season or for next season.
As per reports, the Reds have been linked with a move for in-form Real Sociedad attacker Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian’s impressive form for the Spanish Primeira Liga side have caught the attention of several sides including Liverpool and arch-rivals Manchester United, as per reports in Spain (cited by Mirror).
Odegaard’s impressive form for Sociedad has even caught the attention of Real Madrid who may recall him before his two-year loan spell with La Real ends.
Liverpool will face stiff competition for him, and they will also most likely have to stump up a big fee to convince Real Madrid to sell him.
Why Martin Odegaard is the real deal
Odegaard first made headlines as a 15-year old teenager, and made his debut for Strømsgodset. A wunderkind, he instantly caught the attention of the big clubs in Europe, and it was Real Madrid who made him side on the dotted line.
He has spent several seasons on loan, but his recent spell with Sociedad is the one where he has perhaps come of age and has changed the minds of doubters that he isn’t just one of those next big things who will peter out.
When he first burst onto the scene, Odegaard seemed more about pace and guile. Now, he has taken his game to a new level, and his eye for a pass has left most Spanish football watchers and fans raving about his quality.
For a 20-year old Odegaard has shown incredible vision and his weight of pass to find a teammate in the attacking half is a rarity in modern-day football.
So far this season, Odegaard has played seven games in the Spanish top-flight, and has managed two goals and two assists in the process. What’s more is he averages 3.3 key passes a game, and when you combine his ability to dribble past players and pick a pass in the attacking third, you get the perfect player to have in attack.
If Odegaard moves to Liverpool, he is likely to be deployed in the three-man midfield, or as a false nine and a backup for Roberto Firmino. Odegaard’s work ethic is exemplary, so he would be a good fit under Klopp’s style.
The question is, can the Reds manage to sign him from Real Madrid?
