Arsenal Reportedly Launch £17.3m Bid For Spanish Ace: Do They Really Need Him?

Arsenal could pursue the signature of yet another Real Madrid player, Lucas Vazquez, after the loan signing of Dani Ceballos in the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old winger seems to have fallen down the pecking order at the club, and after Los Blancos’ spending spree last summer, a move would suit Vazquez best.

According to El Desmarque, Arsenal have made an offer of £17.3 million for the 28-year-old Spaniard and the move could happen in the January transfer window. Reports suggest that Roma and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in signing him.

Vazquez came through the Real Madrid academy, playing for the ‘C’ and ‘B’ teams, before going out on loan to Espanyol, and then becoming a part of the Real Madrid senior squad.

The Spanish international has made nearly 200 appearances for the Real Madrid senior team, scoring 22 goals and 44 assists.

Vazquez’s current contract with Real Madrid expires in 2021, having signed his last contract in 2016.

The 28-year-old has represented the Spanish national team on 9 occasions since debuting in 2016.

Do Arsenal really need Vazquez?

Vazquez is a right-sided winger, who is a good passer of the ball from deep areas, or nearer to the goal, and is a player who can pick out passes in the final third.

The Spaniard is also a good dribbler and has the pace to get past defenders, and cause trouble to the opposition’s defence. Vazquez is a good team player who contributes in attack and defence, but his consistency could be an issue for Emery.

It’s surprising that Emery is interested in Vazquez as he already has summer signing Nicolas Pepe to play on the right, as well as youngster Reiss Nelson.

The likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil can also play on the right.

Vazquez is not a player that can cause nightmares to the opposition defence, and neither is he a young player who has the potential to be very good in the next few years. At best, he could be a useful option to bring on from the bench.

The Gunners need to sign an experienced central midfielder as well as a centre back in the next few transfer windows rather than yet another attacker.
