Barcelona have had an underwhelming start to the 2019-20 La Liga season, where they’ve lost one, drawn one, and won just one game in the first three games of the season. The Catalan giants have missed several of their key players due to injury, but they will have a few of them returning after the international break.
The La Liga champions are a team in transition, with new, young players coming into the squad to challenge for another Champions League title along with continuing their domination in the Spanish top-flight.
STRONGEST BARCELONA LINEUP WHEN ALL THE PLAYERS ARE FIT (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper
German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is the No. 1 at Barcelona with former Valencia keeper Neto his backup.
Defence
The back four is going to be more or less similar to the one that played the majority of games last season. Gerard Piqué and Clément Lenglet will form the heart of the defence in the Barcelona lineup, while two French defenders, Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo, will be their backups.
Nélson Semedo will be the first-choice right-back for Barcelona, when he’s fit, with Sergi Roberto a backup option at right-back, while Moussa Wagué is another option. At left-back, experienced Spanish full-back Jordi Alba will be the first-choice option. New signing Júnior Firpo will be Alba’s backup at the club.
Midfield
Manager Ernesto Valverde has several central midfield options to choose from. New signing Frenkie de Jong will be one of the three central midfielders in the Barcelona lineup, and he will most likely play alongside Sergio Busquets. Sergi Roberto has started in midfield this season, but we could maybe see him be replaced by Arthur, who adds more guile and craft to the central midfield area.
Arturo Vidal will be a backup option, who adds tenacity and power to the midfield area, while young Carles Aleñà is another option. Ivan Rakitic does not seem to have a future at Barcelona and could leave the club in the January transfer window.
Attack
The strongest Barcelona attack when all players are fit is the scary trio of Luis Suarez, new signing Antoine Griezmann, and Lionel Messi. The trio has loads of goals in them, as well as assists, and can frighten and terrorise any defence in the world.
