Following their 4-2 win over Lincoln City in the second round of the Carabao Cup earlier this week, Everton will host Wolves at the Goodison Park on Sunday in Matchday 4 of the 2019-20 Premier League campaign.
The Toffees started their new league season by drawing with Crystal Palace, followed by a win over Watford. However, they suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Aston Villa last weekend.
Marco Silva’s troops face a sterner test as Wolves are arguably one of the most fearsome sides in the English top flight. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will test Everton to the limit and the latter have to be at the best to beat them or to even clinch a point.
Everton Team News
Everton are still without their summer signing Jean Philippe-Gbamin and apart from him, Silva has a fully fit squad at his disposal.
PREDICTED EVERTON LINEUP VS. WOLVES (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper
First-choice custodian Jordan Pickford is expected to start between the sticks once again, although he conceded a couple of goals against the Villans.
Defence
The central defensive duo of Yerry Mina and Michael Keane will look to shield Pickford. However, Mina and Keane have to be a lot more resilient at the back.
Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne could operate as the full-backs to put in another tireless display down the flanks. They will look to whip dangerous crosses into the box.
Digne, in particular, has been impressive so far this season. After 3 league games, he averages 2 tackles and 2.3 clearances per game, and also created 7 chances.
Midfield
Wolves have a threatening attacking setup and it is implied that Andre Gomes and Morgan Schneiderlin will have a major role to play in breaking their offensive endeavours.
Schneiderlin made 5 tackles and 1 interception against Dean Smith’s side and the Frenchman will play the role of an anchorman alongside Gomes.
Gylfi Sigurdsson has struggled to fire on all cylinders so far and it is about time for the former Swansea City man to break the shackles and regain some confidence.
Attack
Moise Kean could get the nod to start from Silva ahead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the striker is likely to be aided by Richarlison and Bernard from the flanks.
Everton’s attackers haven’t been able to pull the strings in the final third in a meticulous manner and it goes without saying that they must enhance their productivity against Wolves’ defensive trio of Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett.
