Liverpool are one of the many clubs to have shortlisted Bayern Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz, and they could make a move for him next summer.
The 20-year-old has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, which includes the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Arsenal, to name a few.
As per Daily Express, Bayern Munich are in pole position to sign Havertz, who will reportedly cost £90 million next summer. The midfielder could be sold by the German club if anyone can match the price tag that they have put on him.
Havertz had a fantastic 2018-19 season for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 20 goals and registering 6 assists in all competitions from midfield. The 20-year-old has come through the ranks at Leverkusen and become a key player for them.
The German also made his national team debut last season and has so far played 5 times for his country.
Is Kai Havertz worth the price tag?
Kai Havertz is a phenomenal talent, who could go on to become one of the best in the world. The young German has pace and power to make driving runs into midfield, while also the vision and intelligence to make clever passes behind the opponent’s defence.
Havertz is an all-round player who can bring goals and assists to his team, as well as the ability to play in central midfield or attacking midfield.
But, the question is whether Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp need him now? At the moment – no. Liverpool have a strong squad and could very well win a few competitions this year, and a big-money signing could certainly disrupt a team’s rhythm and momentum.
If Havertz does move to Liverpool, he will arrive at a massive fee which will mean that Klopp will have to start him whenever he is fit.
While Havertz is a very talented player, Klopp could use that money to add depth to the squad as the Merseyside club need two backup full-back and wingers to step in if one of Liverpool’s star players is suspended or injured.
With the likes of Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Jordan Henderson being options in midfield, and Fabinho in defensive midfield, it would be surprising to see Klopp make a move for Havertz, that too at the price being reported.
