Heading into the first international break of the 2019/20 season, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool remain the only side in the Premier League to win all their games. They will want to keep up their momentum but Klopp has a number of star players of his squad out on international duty this week.
Star wingers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will be able to enjoy a cooling down period but here are five Liverpool players to look out for in this international break:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (England)
The former Arsenal midfielder missed a chunk of the last season through injury but is now fit and a serious part of the Liverpool squad. He was also called up for international duty by Gareth Southgate, who sees him as a creative option in the midfield. Chamberlain’s versatility and energy on the field will certainly help The Three Lions and a couple of good performances in this break will certainly improve his confidence for the rest of his club campaign.
Fabinho (Brazil)
The 25-year old made his debut for Brazil back in 2015 and has eight caps to his name. However, he has been in and out of the squad in the last couple of years, struggling to make an impact playing as a full-back. However, he has been named as a part of the Brazil squad that plays friendlies against Colombia and Peru in this break. He could be used in his preferred role and could get the recognition he deserves at the international stage.
Sepp van den Berg (Netherlands U19)
The Dutch youngster joined Liverpool earlier this summer and has already earned rave reviews from fans and the coaching staff in the last couple of months. He was impressive in the chances he got in the pre-season but is yet to break into the first team. He gets another chance to prove to Klopp that he has what it takes to claim a spot in the senior side for the rest of the campaign. He is a crucial part of the youth setup in the Netherlands and will be a player to watch out for in this international break.
Dejan Lovren (Croatia)
Lovren seems to have lost Jurgen Klopp’s trust recently. He is yet to play a single minute for The Reds this campaign and was also linked with an exit earlier in the summer. The move failed to materialize and he will probably struggle to get regular game time for Liverpool this season but this international break could be the right time to prove himself. He is expected to start both the EURO qualifiers against Slovakia and Azerbaijan and a couple of decent performances could bring him back into the picture for Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (England)
Southgate decided to leave Kyle Walker out of the squad for England’s EURO qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo and is without Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who withdrew from the squad with an injury. This leaves England with Kieran Trippier and Alexander-Arnold as the only options at right-back for these games. The Liverpool star has been in superb form early this season and is expected to start both games for his country. He could be the match-winner on his day and is definitely a player to look out for in this international break.
