3 Big Mistakes Manchester United Made In The Transfer Window – Opinion

Manchester United seem to have a clear vision under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who intends to bring in talented homegrown players, as well as young players who could become very good players in the next few years.

In the summer transfer window, they filled two massive holes in the United defence at centre-back and right-back with the signings of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as well as signing a quick winger in Daniel James.

Solskjaer also got rid of players like Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, and Chris Smalling, who are all not part of his system or past their best.

Despite it looking like a positive transfer window for Manchester United, there were quite a few glaring errors made by Solskjaer and co. in the summer.

Let’s take a look at 3 big mistakes Manchester United made in the transfer window:

#3 Not sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan after falling out of favour with Solskjaer, but Manchester United did not sign a replacement for the Belgian, who was the second-highest scorer for the club last season with 15 goals.

The Belgian striker did not fit in the Red Devils manager’s style of play as he wanted quick players who can move the ball quickly and into advanced areas.

But, Manchester United made a grave error in not signing a replacement as two players who are most likely going to start up top – Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, have been inconsistent.

Rashford gets into good areas but his finishing is not up to mark, while Martial, at times, disappears in games.

#2 Failure to sign a central midfielder

Manchester United have lost two central midfielders in 2018, with Marouane Fellaini leaving to China while Ander Herrera signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

It was vital for the club to sign a new central midfielder to play alongside Paul Pogba as the options that Solskjaer currently has is not good enough. Fred, who was signed by United last summer, had a terrible first season, while Nemanja Matic is well past his best.

Academy graduates Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira have not yet shown that they are good enough to start every game for the club, but are the second and third options in midfield after Paul Pogba in the United midfield, which is a matter of concern for United fans.

#1 Keeping players who are not good enough

Manchester United got rid of four first-team players in the summer, with the likes of Lukaku, Sanchez, Smalling, and Matteo Darmian leaving the club, but there are still several players who are not good enough for Manchester United that are still at the club.

Centre-backs Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have yet to show that they are Manchester United level players despite playing for the club for five or more seasons, while Ashley Young is well past his best and has been criticised by fans over the last two seasons or more.

All three players should have seen the exit door at United, while there is also a case for Matic to have been put on the transfer list.

I stumbledupon it best place I am going to return yet again since I saved as a favorite it.
