West Bromwich Albion are plotting a move to lure Sporting CP winger Matheus Pereira to the Hawthorns this summer, it has been reported.
The Baggies are keen to make three or four more signings in the ongoing transfer window and the Express & Star have claimed that they have their eyes trained on Pereira.
It is believed that Albion are in talks with Sporting and are attempting to formulate a loan deal for Pereira whom they are keen to sign.
The Portuguese apparently wanted a clause inserted in the contract which would have obligated the Baggies to buy the player for £9m at the end of the loan deal.
It has been stated by the Birmingham Mail that Sporting have now made the young gun available for €10million but it is apparent that Albion still want to sign him on loan.
Both parties are yet to come to a conclusion but the Championship side are not panicking.
Slaven Bilic has already acquired the services of Kenneth Zohore, Romaine Sawyers, Darnell Furlong, Semi Ajayi and Filip Krovinovic in this transfer window.
Bilic now wants to add depth to his attacking department as he is readying his troops for the upcoming season and it will make a lot of sense if they can sign Pereira.
A smart choice by Bilic
Having emerged through the youth ranks of Sporting, Pereira hasn’t been able to cement his place in their senior side and had spent the previous campaign out on loan at German side FC Nurnberg.
Although he couldn’t prevent Nurnberg from getting relegated from the German Bundesliga, his promising displays caught the attention of a number of clubs in Europe.
A technically gifted left-footed winger, Pereira is versatile enough to ply his trade on either wing as well as a central attacking midfielder and has pace to burn.
He has the vision to open up space in the final third and is an astute passer of the ball. Pereira is a real talent and is expected to develop into a formidable player in the future.
The Brazilian has the tendency to cut inside and with his powerful shooting skills, he tests the goalkeeper on a regular basis.
Kyle Edwards and Matt Phillips are the only two prominent wingers on the books of Bilic and signing Pereira would bring some much-needed competition for a place in the starting lineup.
