Rose and Sanchez fail again: Tottenham players rated in shock 0-1 loss vs Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur fell to their first loss of the league campaign, as they were frustrated by a well-organized Newcastle United side this weekend. Spurs conceded the first goal for the third league game running but this time, they did not show enough hunger, falling to a shock loss.

Joelinton’s early goal was enough to settle the game as Steve Bruce registered his first win as a Newcastle United manager. Mauricio Pochettino will lament the penalty shout against Harry Kane, but Spurs did not do enough on the night to deprive the visitors of all three points.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR PLAYER RATINGS

Hugo Lloris (6):

Made one superb save from a Longstaff shot but couldn’t do much to keep Joelinton’s strike out on a rather mundane night for the French ace.

Danny Rose (4):

May have kept Miguel Almiron on his toes all game but he lost Joelinton in the build-up to the goal and was out of position far too often for Spurs’ liking.

Davinson Sanchez (4):

Struggled to keep up with Joelinton, who won this battle hands down. Did very little to shield Lloris in goal, as he was at fault for another couple of chances the visitors created in the second half.

Toby Alderweireld (5):

Won most of his duels and was quick to snuff out the danger. Had very little to do otherwise, with Joelinton playing on Sanchez’s shoulder.

Kyle Walker-Peters (5):

The youngster had a decent battle with Christian Atsu and was solid for most of the game. But pulled his hamstring in the second half and couldn’t last the whole game.

Harry Winks (6):

Winks put in a solid performance in the middle of the park, pushing Newcastle United wide in their build-up. But did very little to break down the visitors, as he often chose the easier pass to keep the ball rolling.

Moussa Sissoko (6):

Started as a midfielder but covered for the injury to Walker-Peters at right-back. Created three chances, which Harry Kane and Lucas Moura should have put away. Was lively even in the dying minutes of the game.

Erik Lamela (4):

An immobile presence in attack, Lamela more often than not slowed down Tottenham’s tempo and could not last the whole game.

Heung Min-Son (5):

Back for his first game for the club this season, Son did not look ready as he missed a couple of half-chances which he usually scores from. Also created very little from the flank, making life easier for the Newcastle backline.

Lucas Moura (3):

Was looking to play in the pockets of space between the backline and the midfield but was rarely involved in build-up play. Had a couple of chances he should have put away, which he will lament for the rest of the week.

Harry Kane (4):

Got no real sighter of Dubravka’s goal as he lacked service from deep and the wide areas. Took on himself to create chances but did not do enough to win his side the game. A tad unlucky not to win a penalty in the second half.

Subs:

Giovanni lo Celso (5):

Saw very little of the ball but created the chance that Kane could have won a spot-kick from.

Christian Eriksen (5):

Spurs needed him to change the course of the game but he had very little time to settle down and make any kind of an impact on the result.

Ben Davies (N/A):

Erectile dysfunction sign: cheap viagra.
