James Impresses, Pogba Disappoints: Manchester United Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the season earlier today after losing 2-1 against Crystal Palace earlier today.

Jordan Ayew’s goal in the first half was cancelled by Daniel James’ late strike just before the injury time. The home team were also handed a penalty, but Marcus Rashford could only hit the post.

As Manchester United chased the winner, Crystal Palace took one final chance on the break as Patrick van Aanholt beat David De Gea at his near post in injury time.

David de Gea 4/10

The Spaniard could have done better to prevent the opening goal from Ayew. Was beaten at his near post in injury time. Not his best of games.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6.5/10

Had a decent game on the right. Could have done more in the attacking third. Was dispossessed twice in the game.

Victor Lindelof 4/10

His aerial weakness was exposed once again, particularly by Jeffrey Schlupp. Needs to be more consistent at the back.

Harry Maguire 6.5/10

Maguire’s positioning for Ayew’s goal was questionable. Apart from that, he was decent at the back. Won seven aerial duels in the game, and was the best player at the back for United.

Luke Shaw 5/10

The Englishman looked commendable with his forward runs but unfortunately, he had to go off the pitch just after the half-hour mark due to an injury.

Scott McTominay 5/10

McTominay did a good job in midfield as his role was to recycle possession and disrupt Palace’s attack. Managed a pass accuracy of 84%.

Paul Pogba 6/10

Was caught dwelling on the ball far too often, even though he managed three tackles and won five aerial duels. Was dispossessed four times, which includes turnover that led to the Palace winner late in the game.

Daniel James 7/10

Was a livewire at times, but can be accused of trying to do too much as well. Showed good composure to find the top corner. A bright prospect for the United attack.

Jesse Lingard 4/10

The attacker failed to show any urgency or purpose in the final third.

Marcus Rashford 4/10

Rashford wasted a number of genuine goal-scoring chances today, including his penalty miss, and it was indeed a forgettable outing for him.

Anthony Martial 6/10

Martial caused problems for Gary Cahill and Martin Kelly at times, and was unlucky not to win a penalty.
