Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has emerged as a target for Bournemouth, according to reports.
Wanyama’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks uncertain, and it has been claimed by The Sun that Bournemouth are willing to make him sign on the dotted line.
Earlier this summer, Spurs signed Tanguy Ndombele from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon for a club-record transfer fee of £65million to beef up their midfield.
With Ndombele now an option, the Lilywhites might sell Wanyama to give Pochettino a bit of money late on in the transfer window.
The Kenyan international moved to Spurs back in the summer transfer window of 2016 from Southampton for a transfer fee of £11.5million.
Pochettino’s camp will look to recoup at least the aforesaid fee which they paid for him, and it is believed that West Ham United and Galatasaray are also interested in signing him.
Bournemouth have already strengthened their midfield by signing Philip Billing from Huddersfield Town, and adding Wanyama will only bring more quality to their arsenal.
Bournemouth signing Wanyama would be a shrewd move
Wanyama featured regularly for Spurs in his first full season at the north London, but has found it hard to cement his place in the starting lineup in the last two campaigns.
The defensive midfielder has been hit by a lot of injuries, and he was forced to pull out of Audi Cup earlier this summer owing to a knee injury.
Pochettino has Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, and Ndombele on his books and they are likely to be ahead of Wanyama in the pecking order in the upcoming season.
Owing to the fierce competition for a place in the starting line-up at Spurs, Wanyama might be tempted to make a move this.
Wanyama, when fit, patrols the central midfield with ruthless power and energy. He shields the backline well, and there aren’t too many players who can get past him.
The 28-year-old can make the quick transition from defence to attack as well, something that was a regular feature of his game at Southampton, which later earned him a move to Spurs.
He is a composed player in the middle of the park, and with the experience he has, he might be able to help the Cherries to break into the top 10.
Eddie Howe’s side are known for their fluent attacking displays, but someone like Wanyama would add a bit more steel to their midfield and make them a meaner team as a whole.
