Twitter reacts to Steve Bruce edging closer to Newcastle after quitting Sheffield Wednesday

Steve Bruce has stepped down as the Sheffield Wednesday manager’s post, and is likely to be appointed as the manager of Newcastle United, according to a report from Talksport.

The Magpies have made a compensation offer, but the Championship club haven’t moved forward in their proceedings yet, the report adds.

The 58-year-old took charge at the Hillsborough Stadium midway through the 2018/19 season in February, helping the Owls to a 12th place finish in the Championship.

The former Sunderland manager has a vast experience of managing in the Premier League as well as the Championship, and has been in charge of 10 clubs so far in his career.

Bruce has managed Aston Villa, Hull City, Sheffield United, Wigan, Huddersfield Town, Crystal Palace and Magpies fierce rivals Sunderland.

Things at Tyneside aren’t exactly rosy after Rafa Benitez’s departure. Following the Spaniard’s demise, the club also lost arguably their best player in Ayoze Perez who has signed for Leicester City. As of now, with less than a month ago, things are looking pretty bleak for the Toon.

After the reports of a potential takeover of the club in May, the Toon army was filled with the positivity, which seems to have been short-lived as nothing materialised, leaving the club under Mike Ashley’s cloud once again.

The team is currently on their pre-season tour in China under the supervision of no manager as they get ready to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Asia trophy in Nanjing on Wednesday.

Bruce, who had talks with Newcastle United on Saturday, has left Sheffield Wednesday along with assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence by his side.

The 58-year-old who is likely to take charge of his boyhood club will join the Magpies in China if a move is finalised. He led the SWFC preseason triumph over Lincoln City last week.

Let’s look at some of the fans’ reaction as Newcastle United look set to embark on the post-Benitez era at St. James Park…
