Southampton are weighing up a move for Club Brugge attacker Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld who moved from NEC Nijmegen to Belgium just last year.
The Saints have joined the long list of potential suitors for the Dutch youngster, according to Voetbal International
The interested clubs include the likes of AC Milan, Stade Rennes, Tottenham Hotspur, while Inter Milan, are also in contention.
The 22-year-old, who has a running contract with the Jupiler Pro League club until 2022, has his eyes set on moving to a bigger club.
With Euros 2020 also in sight, Danjuma’s decision is likely to be influenced by the role and the playing time he will be offered at his new club.
Danjuma scored 6 goals and made 4 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions — including the Champions League — last season.
What will Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld add to the team?
Danjuma is a right-footed player who features on the left-wing. The young Dutch star has electric pace and decent dribbling skills, which help him glide past defenders on the pitch.
His ability to get away from defenders and create space help him have a pop at goal or cross, thus making him a threat in the final third.
The former PSV Eindhoven youth product stands in at 5ft 8in tall, but doesn’t fall behind in the physical side of the game. His physicality allows him to hold off defenders and helps maintain possession using his upper body strength, especially during the counter-attacks.
The player of Nigerian descent also offers an indirect set-piece threat and is a complete winger who just needs a tad bit of polishing to set the Premier League alight.
Even though the 22-year-old has huge potential, he must work on his shortcomings, which includes his work ethic. He needs to buck up in the defensive phase of the game as well. This is a big turnoff for the modern-day managers like Ralph Hasenhuttl, who expects his team to play a high tempo game with his players applying the press.
The attacker’s passing skills aren’t something to boast about either, with the Netherlands international managing a subpar pass success of 66.7 across all competitions last term.
Danjuma also needs to become more consistent in his performances, but that aspect will improve as he plays more often.
The Dutch youngster is still at the beginning of his career and under the right tutelage, he could be a big player.
