Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko is being tracked by Serie A giants AS Roma, it has been reported.
Roma have asked Spurs about signing Sissoko, it has been claimed by TuttoMercatoWeb. Interestingly, Spurs recently acquired the services of Tanguy Ndombele, so it remains to be seen what happens to Sissoko, who could drop down the pecking order next season.
Under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, the north London outfit have established themselves as a top side in Europe, and have finally spent some money to strengthen their team this summer.
They finished fourth in the Premier League last season, and also made the UEFA Champions League final.
Sissoko had an impressive season for Spurs, and played a key role in the team’s fortunes, even going on to earn the fans’ adulation. Since joining the club from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, Sissoko has made 125 appearances for Tottenham.
Should Tottenham Hotspur sell Mousa Sissoko this summer?
He made 29 league appearances and managed to bag 3 assists, but it was his overall midfield contribution that helped Spurs.
Pochettino’s side were hit with frequent injuries to their key midfielders, while Mousa Dembele left the club in January, so they needed someone to step up, and that player was Sissoko.
Defensively, Sissoko was solid as he made 1.2 tackles per game on an average, and ran tirelessly on the pitch to retrieve the ball or protect the defence. The French international also makes good use of space and is renowned for his driving runs from midfield.
Sissoko is a proven and experienced campaigner, and his tenacity and no-nonsense approach play a part in the team’s overall outlook on the pitch.
Despite the signing of Ndombele, Spurs’ midfield will not have the necessary depth if they strike Sissoko off their books.
If Spurs are to end their silverware wait, they will need all the help they can get, so the club should keep the key contributors instead of selling them to balance the books. Pochettino has done a fantastic job so far, so it wouldn’t make sense to just buy someone like Ndombele and sell Sissoko this summer.
