Everton close in on two-time Premier League winner: Important move by Silva

Fabian Delph could be on the move from Manchester City this summer as Everton are interested to acquire his services, it has been claimed.

The Toffees are all set to conclude a deal to lure Delph to the Goodison Park for a fee which could be worth up to £10million, BBC have reported.

Under the tutelage of Marco Silva, Everton finished eighth in the Premier League standings last season and must strive to secure a European spot in the upcoming campaign.

In order to do so, they must beef up the quality of their arsenal and have already secured the signatures of Andre Gomes and Jonas Lossl this summer.

Their apparent interest to make Delph sign on the dotted line makes a lot of sense as they do need a leader in the dressing room following the departure of Phil Jagielka to Sheffield United.

Fabian Delph: Profile

Delph emerged through the youth ranks of Bradford City and Leeds United and eventually paved his way to cement his place in the senior squad of the latter.

After impressing for the Whites, he was signed by Aston Villa in the summer of 2009 and rose up the ranks in a steady manner to become a vital part of the setup.

However, he switched to Manchester City in the summer transfer window of 2015 in somewhat controversial circumstances after having rejected a move to the Etihad Stadium initially.

He faced widespread criticism for changing his mind and the agony of the fans was aggravated by the fact that the Villans could secure just £8million from his transfer.

He has had an injury-plagued time at the Etihad but he did end up winning the title twice contributing immensely in the 2017-18 season where City became the first team to clock 100 points in a Premier League season. But he failed to keep up his level of performance in the last season, catching the eye occasionally for his errors in defence.

The English international was handed merely 8 starts and 3 substitute outings and a move away could be a decent option for both the player and the club.

What will he offer to Everton?

Delph has truckloads of experience of English football under his belt, which could help the Blues. He will offer leadership qualities which could be a bonus for Silva’s side.

He is a versatile player and has shown that he has the capability of plying his trade as a central midfielder as well as a left-back as per the demand of the situation.

The 29-year-old is an astute passer of the ball and can dictate the tempo of the game. With him on their books, Everton will get closer to having all their bases covered ahead of a demanding season where experienced players like Delph will play a vital role.
