Arsenal want to sign Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez this summer, it has been reported.
The north London outfit will compete with Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain for the Spaniard’s signature, it has been claimed by Spanish publication AS.
Vazquez was an important member of Real Madrid last season as he made 47 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos.
Zinedine Zidane’s side have signed Eden Hazard, Rodrygo, and Luka Jovic this summer, so Vazquez might struggle for regular playing time next season.
Why Lucas Vazquez would be a good fit for Arsenal
While Danny Welbeck has already been released by Unai Emery this summer, the likes of Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggled to make an impact and were largely inconsistent last season.
If Arsenal do not bring in a quality player to inject more quality and flair in the wide areas, there will be too much pressure on the duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette next season – two players who did the bulk of the goal-scoring for the Gunners last season.
Vazquez will hope to get regular playing time to make it into Spain’s squad for the Euro 2020, so his departure is likely. A move to Arsenal should help him feature more regularly.
The 28-year-old would be an ideal fit under Emery’s tactical setup and Arsenal’s attacking approach. He is an astute passer of the ball, has the pace to trouble opposition full-backs and defenders.
Generally, he crosses the ball into the box with a lot of purpose, and is also tenacious for an attacker.
Emery has been targeting Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, but the Eagles have placed a staggering price tag of £80million on the Ivorian. With an asking price so high, Arsenal have no choice but to look elsewhere.
Vazquez will cost around €35 million, and he would be a feasible option for the Gunners. The Spanish international could be a vital player for Arsenal and it will be interesting to if Arsenal meet Real Madrid’s asking price for the 28-year old.
The deal could work out well for all parties as Arsenal need a good winger, Vazquez needs playing time, while Real Madrid need to balance their books following their summer spending spree so far.
