Opinion- Tottenham star linked with exit: 3 potential destinations for him including Leicester City

Just over a month after starting the 2019 Champions League final against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose has been omitted from the Premier League side’s pre-season tour and is set to leave the club according to some reports. Rose joined the London club as a 17-year-old in 2007 and became an important player for the Premier League side, as well as a key player for the English national team.

Rose has two years left on his current contract at Tottenham, and the London side want £25 million for him, according to Telegraph. Spurs are also reportedly selling Kieran Trippier, who is rumoured to join Atletico Madrid, as per Telegraph.

With Rose set to leave the club, which side could he join ahead of the 2019-20 season? Let’s take a look at 3 potential destinations for Danny Rose:

Wolves

Wolves had a fantastic 2018-19 season, finishing 7th and qualifying for the Europa League. With the Europa League, comes the prospect of games coming thick and fast which requires a strong squad as well as competition for places.

Danny Rose could be a great addition to Wolves who could challenge for a top 6 place next season. Spanish left-back Jonny, who signed for Wolves in 2018, had a great season for the club but Wolves would need another left-back in the squad that can compete with Jonny and Rose fits the bill well.

While Rose seems to be an enticing option for them, it is unlikely the English international will take this step in his career just yet, even though one cannot rule out any move in the transfer window.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are going through an overhaul in their squad with several key players leaving the club at the end of the 2018-19 season. The Spanish side’s long-term left-back Filipe Luis left the club on a free transfer and he’s been replaced by 21-year-old Brazilian full-back Renan Lodi, who was signed from Athletico Paranaense for €20 million.

The Spanish side will need another left-back in their squad and an experienced international like Rose could add serious quality to the side. With teammate Trippier also linked with a move to Atletico, a double swoop by Atletico to sign both full-backs could be a great move.

Leicester City

Leicester City currently have two left-backs who are in different stages of their career – 33-year-old Christian Fuchs is close to the end of his career, while 22-year-old Ben Chilwell is highly-rated and touted to be a future star. He has been repeatedly linked with a move away and even though it is unlikely to materialise anytime soon, having a solid base will not be a bad option for the club.

And add to that the nature of the squad Rodgers is forming at the King Power, the Foxes will soon need two top-quality options in most positions if they are to match up to the level they are aiming.
