Frank Lampard has his dream managerial job of being in charge of Chelsea in just his second year of management, but has a difficult task on his hands following the sale of the Blues’ best player, Eden Hazard.
The current transfer ban will make matters even more difficult for the Englishman.
The transfer ban, in a way, will give Chelsea’s highly-rated youngsters an opportunity to play a big part for the London club next season, and they couldn’t have asked for a better manager to lead them as Lampard has been in their position in the past.
Let’s take a look at 3 youngsters who could be important for Chelsea next season:
Tammy Abraham
Tammy Abraham has been with Chelsea since the age of 6, and has played in various age groups before being promoted to the senior squad.
The 21-year-old striker is one of three strikers in the Chelsea first-team squad, beside Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud following the end of Gonzalo Higuain’s loan spell and the sale of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid.
Abraham deserves a chance in the Chelsea team following a stellar 2018-19 campaign with Aston Villa in the Championship, scoring 26 goals and 3 assists in the season, part of the side that got promoted after winning the Championship play-off final, defeating a Derby County team managed by Lampard.
Mason Mount
Frank Lampard knows all about Chelsea’s young attacking midfielder Mason Mount, whom he coached last season at Derby County.
Mount, like Abraham, joined the London club at the age of six and progressed through the ranks. He had a phenomenal season for Derby last year as the 20-year-old scored 11 goals and 6 assists in the season from central midfield and attacking midfield positions.
The midfielder has started for Lampard’s side in pre-season games, and will probably have an important role to play in the position behind the striker, much like what Lampard did years ago for the Blues.
Callum Hudson-Odoi
One of the brightest English talents in the game, German giants Bayern Munich had gone public in their interest to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi, but it looks like they have failed in their pursuit of signing him, with reports recently claiming that the 18-year-old has signed a new contract with the club.
This is one of the best news to come out of Chelsea in recent weeks as Hudson-Odoi could potentially become one of the best in the league.
The winger made 24 appearances for the club last season, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists in the season. With the departure of Eden Hazard, he may have a bigger role to play once he returns from his injury.
