Tottenham Hotspur close in on Ligue 1 midfield beast: An excellent move in the offing

Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is expected to make a move to Tottenham Hotspur, it has been reported.

It has been claimed by Football London that Spurs are confident of landing Ndombele at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer and he is reportedly valued at £63million by the Ligue 1 outfit.

Despite interest from Manchester United, Juventus and PSG, Spurs are reportedly leading the race to make him sign on the dotted line. Besides, Ndombele is also keen to make a move to the ranks of Spurs and chairman Daniel Levy is all set to bring him to north London.

Under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, the Lilywhites had another excellent last season despite opting out of any involvement in two previous transfer windows. They secured a top 4 finish and also reached the Champions League final overcoming a number of stern tests along the way.

In order to keep moving in the right direction, Pochettino certainly needs to beef up his arsenal. If Spurs manage to sign Ndombele, he would be their first signing since the acquisition of Lucas Moura.

Tanguy Ndombele: How good is he?

A product of the Guingamp youth academy, Ndombele started his senior career at French side Amiens and while he was on their books, he was loaned out to Lyon. Les Gones eventually signed him permanently and he has surfaced as one of the hottest properties in the game.

The 22-year-old bagged 34 appearances in the French top flight last season during which he scored 1 goal and registered 7 assists. Precision in his passes was also evident as he notched up a pass success rate of 89.1% and it is therefore not surprising to see a technically adept team like Spurs looking to attain his services.

Besides, Ndombele scored 2 goals in 8 Champions League outings thus displaying his credentials on the biggest stage of club football. Despite being in his early playing years, he has already represented the French national side and is touted to have a bright future ahead of him.

Where will he fit in?

Ndombele is primarily a box-to-box midfielder and he could be an ideal successor to Mousa Dembele who moved to China in January and could be used alongside Eric Dier in the central midfield. He is an all-action player and has the ability to make driving runs forward to create chances for his teammates as well as to score goals.

His physical prowess is exemplary and he certainly has the technical edge to make his presence felt on the pitch. Pochettino has quite a reputation of nurturing young talent and under him, Ndombele could take his game to the next level if his move to Spurs materialises.
