Premier League new boys Norwich City, like most newly promoted teams, are keen on strengthening their side for the massive challenge that lies ahead of them in the coming season. Norwich are reportedly interested in signing a young Scottish player, Motherwell’s David Turnbull, according to BBC Sport.
The report claims that Motherwell have accepted a bid of £3.25 million from Norwich City for the signing of the 19-year-old midfielder following Celtic’s initial offer to sign him. But Turnbull has apparently declined Celtic’s contract offer as he looks to move elsewhere ahead of the 2019-20 season.
Turnbull came through the ranks at Motherwell, having joined the Scottish side in 2009, and made his debut for the club in 2017. He made just two appearances in the 2017-18 season, but in the 2018-19 season, Turnbull made 34 appearances for them, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists for the club in all competitions. The 2018-19 season was the breakthrough year for Turnbull who made a big impression in the season.
The teenager’s contract with his current club expires in 2021, having signed a new contract with the club earlier this year. The youngster has not played for the Scottish national team yet but has represented Scotland in the youth levels.
What will he offer?
Turnbull is a young player who has played as a central midfielder or as an attacking midfielder, and even as a left midfielder. He is a good passer of the ball and is a player who likes to make runs from one box to the other.
The youngster is capable of making late runs into the box to supplement the attackers and score goals and provide assists as seen by his impressive stats last season. The midfielder is a technical and creative operator who can make an impact in the final third.
Turnbull won the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year award in the 2018-19 season after his fantastic season for Motherwell.
Norwich City could benefit from a young player like Turnbull, who has the potential to get even better and be very influential in creating and scoring goals for the team. His versatility and verve make him a good signing, while the small transfer fee makes him a bargain for the Canaries. There will be the obvious matter of the jump in quality and he will have to work hard for his place.
