Newcastle United confirmed this week that manager Rafa Benitez will not be staying at the club and that he will leave when his contract expires on Sunday.
The Magpies could have new owners if current owner Mike Ashley decides to sell the club to the Bin Zayed Group, who are keen on buying the Tyneside outfit.
With Benitez’s departure from the club certain, the Magpies will have to appoint a new manager soon, and the club have now been linked with Burnley manager Sean Dyche.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Newcastle will have to pay £10 million to Premier League rivals Burnley to sign their manager.
Jose Mourinho, who was surprisingly linked with a move to Newcastle United has seemingly ruled himself out of the running after he revealed that he wants to compete for trophies, and not a top half finish.
Dyche is now one of the frontrunners in the race for the Newcastle United hot seat, but one issue that the Magpies will have to go around in their bid to sign him is Dyche’s contract, which still has three years remaining.
The English manager has been with Burnley for seven years and has overseen two promotions to the Premier League, with their latest one coming in 2016.
Dyche helped Burnley finish 7th in the 2017-18 Premier League season, which was their best performance in top-flight football since the 1973–74 season, helping them to a spot in the Europa League.
Is Dyche the right man for the Newcastle United job?
Sean Dyche has done a phenomenal job at Burnley ever since he took charge of the club in 2012, the highlight being an incredible seventh-place finish in the 2017-18 season.
The English manager has often been tipped to take a top job in the Premier League, but may have fallen short because of his pragmatic style of football that most top teams in English football do not want to play.
Dyche, however, could be a great fit at Newcastle, who have to make do with little funds, due to a stubborn owner in Mike Ashley, should the takeover process collapse.
The Burnley manager has shown that he can organise a team well tactically, much like former manager Rafa Benitez, focusing on results rather than an attractive style of football.
He also has great Premier League experience and is a character that the loyal fans at St James Park might eventually admire.
